In a significant drug bust, law enforcement officials in Lee County have seized a substantial amount of illegal substances and arrested one individual. The operation was carried out by the Lee County Sheriff's Office narcotics division in collaboration with the Durham County Sheriff's Office narcotics division.

According to reports, Robert Wayne Towler, 49-year-old owner of a residence at 406 Key Road, Sanford, was taken into custody after agents discovered a large quantity of drugs and cash during a search warrant execution. The operation began when anonymous callers supplied information regarding illegal activities in the area.

During the investigation, agents stopped Joshua Perry Hodge, 20, who was driving a silver Saturn passenger car with an expired registration tag. A search of the vehicle revealed 16 oxycodone pills packaged in a white plastic bag and 7 oxycodone/acetaminophen pills in a prescription bottle.

As part of the investigation, agents executed a search warrant on Towler's property, where they discovered approximately 7.2 pounds of marijuana and 10 grams of cocaine hidden inside a crawl space area. They also found a large amount of United States currency stashed away in a green military-style ammunition can.

Towler was charged with several counts, including felony possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and marijuana, maintaining a dwelling place for the storage and sale of illegal controlled substances, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He is currently being held at the Lee County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond.

The joint investigation between the Lee County Sheriff's Office and Durham County Sheriff's Office highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes in the region. It also serves as a reminder that law enforcement agencies are working together to address illegal activities and keep communities safe.
